Play Tritones!

For 2-4 players

Object: Be the first player to lay down three intervals that are Tritones (augmented 4ths/diminished 5ths).

Deal: Deal each player 7 cards. Put the remaining cards face down in a pile as the draw pile. Flip the top card and start the discard pile.

Play: Player 1 draws a card from either the stock pile or the discard pile then discards one card face up. Play continues clockwise until you declare “Tritones!”, meaning you can lay down three tritone intervals. You can use six cards to make three intervals, or you can use the same card more than once. For example, if you had a C card, F# card and another C card, you could count the C-F# as one tritone and the F#-C as another. You cannot use the same two cards to make two intervals.

Adjust the difficulty:

Level 1: Make intervals using only the letter value of the card (disregard clef and position on the staff).

Level 2: Make intervals using the position on the staff. Intervals must be within an octave (no octave-jumping). Crossing from bass clef to treble clef is allowed, within the same octave.

Variations: Choose a different interval. Use minor 3rds or major 7s…any interval will work.
